FLOW Action News – April 2008

Greetings friends in FLOW,

April was another flow-filled month for FLOW, and we’re spilling quickly into May (and June). Here’s the news…

Conscious Capitalism® Report: Join John Mackey for a conversation on Conscious Capitalism on June 12th in Austin. John’s talk and conversation with Tami Simon will be recorded for release on CD early next year.

Peace Through Commerce® Report: Join FLOW at FreedomFest 2008, July 9 – 12 in Las Vegas. We will be producing the opening night reception (with Indian music and dance, and more) and a morning filled with Peace Through Commerce on July 11th.

In November we will co-present a Peace Through Commerce® conference with the Center for Corporate Ethics at George Washington University School of Business, directed by Timothy Fort, a leading author and authority on and advocate for peace through commerce. FLOW will produce the opening sessions and collaborate on overall conference development and promotion.

AWE Report: Our Accelerating Women Entrepreneurs program and campaign are steadily developing thanks to ongoing attention and energy from many of the participants in the retreat we convened last month in Austin. Among other things, we are quickly developing a pilot project focused in and on Liberia. Simultaneously, we are developing an overall AWE marketing campaign to advance the global women entrepreneurs movement.

I was honored to participate in the Women Faith and Development Breakthrough Summit at the National Cathedral on April 13th representing FLOW and the Whole Planet Foundation. The Summit, convened by our AWE partner Women Thrive Worldwide and others, portends substantial movement towards women’s economic empowerment.

Michael Strong Report: This afternoon Michael was interviewed by Michael Skye on Prosperity For All Through Conscious Capitalism.

Yesterday he was formerly invited to serve on the Sophia World Women’s Conference 2010, International Headquarters Council as Chair of Social Entrepreneurship.

Michael recently participated in a lively Cato debate on "A Nation at Risk: Twenty-Five Years Later." "A Nation at Risk" was a 1983 study that portrayed the U.S. as at risk of falling behind in global competition due to poor schools. Has our education system gotten better since then, or not? Are we still at risk of falling behind?

FLOW Activation Circle News: The SF FAC meeting last night at New Resource Bank was powerful. Thanks to two of our frequent participants, C. J. Hayden and Deborah Frangquist, for co-creating and co-facilitating. It was a pleasure. Our next meeting will be June 5th, with a clear agenda aimed at cultivating shared vision and exploring opportunities for collaborative action to advance Conscious Capitalism.

Earlier this month FLOW VP Phyllis Blees convened the first FAC conference call, with representatives from the existing FACs and prospective FAC activators in Boulder, Vancouver, and elsewhere. The framework and process for expanding FLOW Activation Circles is emerging as are the people to activate them. Please let Phyllis know if you are interested in information about starting an FAC.

Bearing Fruit: So much of what we do has effects we never directly see. In the past few weeks we’ve received several acknowledgements of effects our 2006 Peace Through Commerce events had on people’s lives, and others on the effect of our 2007 Empowering Women Entrepreneurs events. Here’s one of them.

For several years, I had been delivering classes and camps to local elementary kids about money and financial freedom. In Michael Strong’s keynote speech at the Peace Through Commerce event in Austin, TX in October, 2006, he spoke about the relationship between financial freedom and the presence of peace in those countries. It was at that moment that I recognized the difference this education could make in creating a more peaceful world. I saw this as a mandate to expand our reach with our teachings and we are now preparing to launch the programs nationally, with plans to be globally available through the internet. The possibility of Peace Through Commerce is alive through the mission of The Money Academy.

In gratitude,
Gayle

Wishing you a flow-filled May,
