A Vision for Global Sustainability in
Fifty Years
When the true environmental costs of our
activities are included in the costs of those activities, we will
have developed an economic system that ensures long-term environmental
sustainability. In the case of pollutants such as sulfur dioxide
(the cause of acid rain), this approach, in the form of a pollution
trading rights system, has been extremely successful. In the case
of many other pollutants, including carbon emissions, this approach
presently involves severe challenges. FLOW will support and encourage
coordinated entrepreneurial endeavors among scientists, engineers,
lawyers, politicians, educators, and activists designed to resolve
these serious issues. Insofar as individuals act, and expect others
to act, out of good faith, and out of love rather than fear and
hatred, progress should proceed more quickly in the future than
has been the case in the past. |
